Moving out of a Westwood rental
The Westwood Community Plan area covers Westwood, Westwood Village, North Westwood Village and the UCLA campus, and the city's Westwood Village Specific Plan names nearby residents, office workers and UCLA students and staff among the people the Village serves. Many rentals here are apartments, and some are shared.
In a shared apartment, a move-out clean works only once the whole unit is empty. If one roommate is staying or belongings are still in a bedroom, book a deep clean instead. Agree on the booking, the add-ons and who will hand over the keys before the visit.
California Civil Code 1950.5 caps cleaning deductions at what returns the unit to the cleanliness it had at move-in, for tenancies that began after January 1, 2003. Tenants can request an initial inspection no earlier than two weeks before moving out, which shows what to fix. Book the clean after it.
Since April 1, 2025, a landlord who deducts for cleaning or repairs must photograph the unit after you return it and again after that work, and include the photos with the itemized statement. In the City of Los Angeles, LAHD says rentals built on or before October 1, 1978 generally fall under the Rent Stabilization Ordinance, which covers rent increases and evictions.
