Estate cleaning in Los Angeles usually comes after the hardest part: the family has gone through a loved one's belongings and decided what to keep, give away or sell. The cleaning visit prepares the home for what comes next, whether that is a sale, a new tenant or a family member moving in. With Ascend, there is no separate estate package. You book the service that matches the home's condition. If the home is completely empty, book move-out cleaning. If furniture or belongings are still inside, book deep cleaning.
House cleaners clean surfaces. They do not sort, pack or remove a loved one's belongings, so plan the cleanout first and the cleaning second.
Which cleaning service fits each stage of an estate?
- Furniture and belongings are still in the home: deep cleaning. This fits a home being prepared for an estate sale, a furnished rental or a relative moving in with the existing furniture.
- Everything has been removed: move-out cleaning, for a property that is completely empty of furniture and personal belongings.
- The home will sit for a while with someone living in it or checking on it: standard or recurring cleaning covers routine upkeep.
- Stained or worn carpet: carpet steam cleaning or shampooing is a separate service request. House cleaning includes vacuuming, not carpet shampooing.
What has to happen before a move-out clean?
The empty-home requirement is strict. Furniture, boxes, personal belongings and loose rubbish must be removed and closets emptied. If furniture or belongings are still present, the service defaults to deep cleaning instead. Tell Ascend before the visit if the cleanout will not be finished in time.
Before the clean:
- Finish the estate sale, donation pickups and hauling, so nothing is left that the cleaner would have to work around.
- Keep water and electricity on until the cleaning is finished.
- Complete any repairs or painting first, so the cleaning is the last step before the home is handed over or listed.
Move-out cleaning builds on Ascend's deep cleaning checklist, with added attention to empty closet interiors and floor detailing throughout the home. The room-by-room cleaning checklist shows what each service includes.
What does estate cleaning not cover?
Knowing the limits helps you plan the other help you may need:
- Sorting, packing and organizing. Tidying and organizing personal items are not part of Ascend's included checklist.
- Removing belongings, furniture or rubbish. Cleaners empty trash cans as part of the checklist, but deciding what to keep, donate or discard is not part of a house cleaning. Arrange the cleanout separately.
- Moving heavy items. To avoid injury and liability, cleaners do not move refrigerators or heavy furniture. Areas behind them are cleaned only if they are moved safely beforehand.
- Interiors, unless you add them. The inside of the refrigerator, oven, microwave, cabinets and drawers, and interior windows and window tracks, are optional add-ons for every cleaning type, including move-out cleaning.
- Fabric cleaning. Dusting furniture does not include washing fabric or upholstery.
How do you protect keepsakes and important papers?
In a home that belonged to someone you loved, small things matter. Before any cleaner arrives:
- Have the family go through drawers, closets and paperwork, and remove jewelry, cash, important documents, photographs and keepsakes, or store them somewhere safe.
- Point out anything that needs special care and any rooms to skip.
- If you booked cabinet, drawer, refrigerator or oven interiors, empty them first and put the contents somewhere safe. Cleaners do not handle what is inside.
Can you arrange estate cleaning from out of town?
Many families handle a parent's or relative's Los Angeles home from another city. Ascend's preparation guide asks every client to share entry, gate and parking instructions before the visit. For an estate home, also confirm:
- How the cleaner will get in, including any building, lockbox or neighbor arrangement you have set up.
- That the utilities are on and the home is safe to work in.
- Which rooms and surfaces matter most, especially if a buyer, agent or new tenant will see the home soon.
If a deadline is fixed, such as a closing or lease date, share it when you book and confirm availability before relying on that timing. Ascend's guide to last-minute cleaning explains how short-notice requests work.
What if the home has not been cleaned in a long time?
Estate homes are often lived in for decades, and cleaning may have become hard in the final years. Describe the real condition when you book, including grease, soap scum, dust, pet hair or other buildup. Heavy buildup is a separate request rather than part of a standard visit, and a garage or balcony sweep is an optional add-on.
Cleaners work within the allotted time. If a home is particularly messy or dirty and needs extra time, it is billed at $75 per hour, per cleaner. Final pricing and scope may change if the actual condition differs from what was booked. If the home needs more than cleaning, contact Ascend before booking to discuss whether the request fits.
Estate cleaning questions
Do I need to be at the home during the clean?
Not necessarily. Share entry, gate, parking and building-access instructions before the visit, and make sure the home is ready for the service you booked.
Can the home be cleaned while furniture is still inside?
Yes. Book deep cleaning. A move-out clean is only for a completely empty home, and a visit booked as move-out cleaning defaults to deep cleaning when furniture or belongings remain.
Will the cleaner throw away things left in the house?
No. Deciding what to keep, donate or discard belongs to the family. Remove anything you do not want left behind before the clean.
Is the inside of the refrigerator included?
No. The refrigerator interior is an add-on. Empty it fully before the visit, which matters in a home that may have been closed up for a while.
How much does estate cleaning cost in Los Angeles?
It depends on the service you book, the size of the home, its condition and any add-ons. Ascend's house cleaning cost guide explains what affects a quote.
