Extreme house cleaning is for a home with far more dirt, grease, clutter or bathroom buildup than a routine visit can handle. With Ascend in Los Angeles, the key step happens before the visit. You rate your home's condition honestly when you book, and if you choose Heavy Buildup or Extreme, you text photos so the team can review the home before confirming the cleaning. That way the booking, the time and the cleaner's expectations match the home they walk into.
This guide explains how the condition levels work, what to send, how extra time is charged, how to prepare and when a different service fits better.
What counts as extreme or heavy-buildup cleaning?
Ascend's online booking form asks you to describe the current condition of the home on a five-level scale:
- Very Clean / Light Cleaning. Regularly maintained, with minimal dust, grime or buildup.
- Average Condition. Some visible dust, light bathroom buildup or kitchen grease. Generally maintained.
- Needs a Deep Cleaning. Noticeable grime, grease, soap scum, dust or buildup in multiple areas. Extra scrubbing is needed.
- Heavy Buildup. Heavy grime, grease, staining, dust or bathroom buildup in multiple areas. The home has not been thoroughly cleaned for an extended period.
- Extreme / Miracle Cleaning. Excessive buildup in one or more areas, heavy trash or clutter, severe grease or staining, liquids or spills, heavy bathroom buildup, mold or mildew, or significant neglect.
Levels 4 and 5 are what most people mean when they search for extreme, heavy-duty or very dirty house cleaning. Common situations include a home after a long illness, a rental after a difficult tenant, a home that has gone years without a thorough clean, or a household that simply fell behind.
Why do you need to send photos first?
If you select Heavy Buildup or Extreme / Miracle Cleaning, photos are required. Text clear photos of the affected areas to (213) 319-5497 so Ascend's team can review the condition before confirming your cleaning.
Photos help in three ways:
- The team can see whether the request fits a cleaning visit and what scope to confirm.
- The time booked can reflect the real condition rather than a guess.
- You avoid surprises on the day. If the condition on arrival is significantly different from what was selected, additional charges may apply or the cleaning may need to be rescheduled.
Good photos show the worst areas in normal light: the stovetop and oven front, the sink, the inside of the shower or tub, the toilet, floors and any rooms with clutter or trash. Take a wide shot of each room and a close-up of the heaviest buildup.
How long does a heavy-buildup clean take, and what does extra time cost?
There is no fixed answer, because the time depends on the home's size, condition and the tasks you choose. Ascend's cleaners work within the allotted time for your booking. If a home is particularly messy or dirty and needs extra cleaning time, the additional time is billed at $75 per hour, per cleaner.
Two things keep the cost predictable:
- Choose the condition level that matches the home. Ascend's checklist assumes a reasonable level of buildup, and final pricing and scope may adjust if conditions differ from what was booked.
- Prioritize rooms. If the budget or the time is limited, tell Ascend which rooms matter most, such as the kitchen and bathrooms, so the visit starts there.
The online booking form shows pricing after you enter your zip code and home details. For context on what changes a quote, read the house cleaning cost guide.
Is extreme cleaning the same as a deep clean?
No. A deep clean is for an occupied home that needs more than routine upkeep, such as a first visit or a seasonal reset. It adds detail work like baseboards and trim, reachable fixtures, kitchen-exterior degreasing and bathroom buildup removal, all within a reasonable level of buildup.
Heavy buildup goes beyond that. Ascend's cleaning checklist lists heavy buildup or post-construction debris as a separate item available on request for any cleaning type. Share the condition before booking so Ascend can discuss whether the request can be accepted and confirm its scope.
Ascend recommends that a first clean is always a deep clean. If the team determines on arrival that a deep clean is required for a home booked as a routine clean, Ascend will contact you to discuss upgrading the service.
What is not included?
Some limits apply to every visit, whatever the home's condition:
- Heavy furniture and refrigerators stay where they are. Cleaners do not move them because of the injury and liability risk. Move items yourself beforehand, only if you can do so safely, if you want the areas behind them cleaned.
- Interiors are add-ons. The inside of the oven, refrigerator, microwave, cabinets and drawers, plus interior windows and window tracks, must be booked separately. Empty any cabinets you book and store the contents safely.
- Upholstery and fabric are not part of house cleaning. Carpet steam and shampoo cleaning is a separate carpet cleaning service.
- Heavy pet hair is a separate add-on. The pet guide explains how to prepare.
A cleaning visit also does not fix the cause of a problem. If you see mold or mildew, include it in your photos, and deal with any leak or moisture source separately. If your situation involves something other than dirt and buildup, describe it when you text your photos and ask whether it can be accepted before you book.
How should you prepare a very dirty home for cleaners?
Preparation lets the cleaner spend booked time on cleaning rather than sorting:
- Clear trash and personal items first. Bag loose rubbish and pick up clothes, papers and items on floors and counters. Cleaners can reach and clean surfaces much faster when they are clear.
- Decide what stays. If you are sorting belongings, finish before the visit or close off the rooms that are not ready.
- Empty anything you booked as an interior add-on. That includes the refrigerator, cabinets, drawers or oven.
- Check water and electricity. Cleaners need both.
- Share access details. Gate codes, parking and where to find keys belong in the booking notes. Ascend's preparation guide covers what to share.
- Keep your photos current. If the home changes before the visit, send new photos.
When is another service a better fit?
- The home is empty after a move. Choose move-in and move-out cleaning, which is for empty properties. If furniture or belongings are present, the service defaults to a deep clean.
- Belongings have been cleared after a loss. The estate cleaning guide covers cleaning a loved one's home after the cleanout.
- The kitchen and bathrooms are the main problem. The kitchen and bathroom cleaning guide explains which tasks are included and which are add-ons.
- The home is clean again and you want to keep it that way. Set up standard and recurring cleaning after the reset.
