Moving out of a Redondo Beach rental
About half of Redondo Beach homes are rented. The city's 2021-2029 Housing Element says 50 percent of its housing units are rentals. If you are leaving one, California Civil Code 1950.5 allows a landlord to deduct cleaning costs from the security deposit only to bring the unit back to the cleanliness it had when your tenancy began.
The same law lets you request an initial inspection from your landlord, held no earlier than two weeks before you move out. It lists the problems you can fix before the final inspection. Scheduling the clean after that walk-through, and before you hand back the keys, lets the cleaner cover what it noted.
Since April 1, 2025, a California landlord who deducts for cleaning or repairs has to photograph the unit once you return it and again once that work is finished, then send the photos with the itemized statement. Dated photos you take after the cleaner leaves give you your own record.
Moving day in Redondo Beach also means planning the curb. On blocks in the city's preferential parking zones, vendors and guests need a visitor permit during restricted hours, and each home gets no more than two, so decide who uses them. The clean itself needs an empty home with closets cleared and water and electricity on; if items remain, the service defaults to a deep clean.

- Make sure water and electricity are on.
- Share building entry, buzzer or lockbox details, and save a visitor permit or driveway space for the cleaner if your block needs one.
- If you booked oven, fridge, cabinet or drawer interiors, empty them first.
If furniture or belongings are present, the service will default to a Deep Cleaning instead. Drawer interiors are not included in move-out cleaning and must be added on separately.
