Moving out of a Hancock Park home
Hancock Park is a Historic Preservation Overlay Zone, and City Planning's preservation plan says the vast majority of its buildings are single-family homes, with much of the area built from 1922 on. Many are two-story Period Revival houses, so a move-out clean can mean several bedrooms, a staircase and older surfaces. Share the square footage and room count when you book.
The plan also notes that multi-family lots along Rossmore Avenue were left out of the overlay zone, so the wider area includes apartments and duplexes too. In the City of Los Angeles, LAHD says a single-family home that is the only home on its lot is usually outside the Rent Stabilization Ordinance, while duplexes and apartments built on or before October 1, 1978 generally fall under it.
For any rental, California Civil Code 1950.5 limits cleaning deductions to what returns the home to its move-in cleanliness, for tenancies that began after January 1, 2003. You can ask for an initial inspection no earlier than two weeks before move-out, then book the clean after it.
Since April 1, 2025, landlords who deduct for cleaning or repairs must photograph the home after it is returned and after the work, and send the photos with the itemized statement. The house needs to be empty with water and electricity on. Cleaners do not move fridges or heavy furniture, so have movers clear everything first.
